Oh, winter skin! How I’d love to get rid of you forever. Unfortunately, even in sunny Southern California, our “winter” can wreak havoc on already delicate and dry mature skin, leaving it with peeling, tight and uncomfortable. So what can you do to keep your skin hydrated throughout the winter months when humidity is at a minimum and your regular moisturizer just doesn’t cut it anymore? My solution: change out your regular moisturizer for a richer one, or layer the richer one on top of your regular moisturizer. Try both techniques for a few nights in a row each, and see how your skin reacts.

Here are a few of my favorite winter moisturizer choices that will relieve skin dryness and patchiness. So say avoir dehydrated skin and bonjour to the perfect moisture balance!

Avene Skin Recovery Cream – This lovely face cream is perfect for dry, sensitive skin. It hydrates and soothes environmentally damaged skin, and works well for sufferers of eczema and rosacea.

Sanitas Skincare Vita Rich Moisturizer – This olive oil infused hydrator penetrates skin to smooth, firm, protect and nourish. It’s also rich in vitamins and antioxidants that combine to shield skin from free radicals and minimize signs of aging. Good for all skin types.

Glo Therapeutics Moisture Rich Cream – This nourishing and protective formula combines wheat germ oil and milk thistle extract to provide powerful antioxidant protection, while delivering nourishment to the skin. It also contains lecithin, a natural antioxidant and emollient to attract water to the skin.

Darphin Hydraskin Rich – This is from my favorite French skincare line! It features an advanced formula infused with fair trade African shea butter and mango butter to transform dehydrated skin into supple and soft skin. This cream uses Hydra-Structure Technology with butterfly lavender extract to help reinforce the lipid barrier.
